Fuel City was born 10 years ago on 8 acres in the heart of Downtown Dallas as a convenience store and Taqueria. What started as a gas station and beer store is now famous for having 5 of the state's biggest longhorns, a swimming pool, a DJ, and karaoke in the parking lot. It has since been designated as an Official Point of Interest by former mayor Laura Miller, and has received dozens of awards ranging from the Best Taco in Texas by Texas Monthly, the best in Dallas by D Magazine, and the Best Example of Texas In A Nutshell by the Dallas Observer. The only question that remained was what to do with the unused land. The choice was a car wash--one whose popularity, reputation, and quality would hopefully surpass that of Fuel City. After a year and a half of planning, designing, and building, the 5500 square foot car wash opened, housing 3 Express Pay Terminals and a 155 foot conveyor capable of washing 165 cars per hour. The hope is that the car wash will truly become a landmark in and of itself--especially since it has a 50 foot tall tower that can be seen from the highway for over a mile.
