Texas Legislative Session Opens

The 80th Texas Legislature was gaveled into session in January amid the controversial race in the House for the Speakership. After dust settled the incumbent Tom Craddick was reelected Speaker. The challenge to Speaker Craddick created a slow start for the House in appointing Committee Chairs and members. The focus of the Session to this point has been on prisons, toll roads and clean up to the tax bill. The main car wash issue as of publication of this newsletter is the large water bill now in Committee. SCWA has presented testimony in favor of the proposed legislation which is designed in part to create additional water resources in Texas through new reservoirs.
